Simon Thompson has worked in the IT industry since 1970. During that time he has accumulated experience of many different industries and designed and supplied systems to them using the technology of the day to solve business problems. He has developed IT solutions for a variety of public and private industry segments, and has worked for companies such as IBM, ICL and AT&T in Business Development roles.
Along with his Internet Consultant colleague Andy Noble (who is based in Evesham 20 miles away), he recognised the value of the Website Improvement Workshop concept immediately and together they resolved to make it part of their marketing process.
Starting in April 2007, to date Andy and Simon have run 12 workshops with 50 people attending over that time. Feedback has been 100% positive and real business has resulted from them. All attendees have been either business owners or the marketing directors and managers of larger businesses.
Other Internet Consultants in the WSI South West UK group have attended some of the workshops with the result that they are using Simon and Andy’s workshops to put their own clients through rather than do the whole thing themselves as they see the added value that they have developed in the workshop material.
Simon says “The major challenge is getting people to attend. Many business owners think that they have done their bit for the website by signing the cheque, and a surprising number accept poor performance from their website investment."
"I also ensure my clients attend a course or I deliver a shortened version 'in house' as this is yet another way to differentiate myself from the ‘website designer’ and ensures the client fully understands his role in delivering a succesful website”.
